The truly mesmerizing and wonderful, nostalgic melodies from his previous EP "The Morning is a River" still resonate so strongly and it is not an understatement to call it one of the most influential works in this genre this year. With "Can I Read Life As A Book" is the bustling and highly talented composer, pianist and founder Sergio Díaz De Rojas back. Back with a piece that was originally written for a little video project of the filmmaker Müge Yildiz just a few months ago.
They both worked already together on the short film "Live is Flux", where the impressive composition "Istanbul" was featured. About the origination process of the new piece said Sergio: "She contacted me asking if I would be willing to make the music for a new video project showing images and text-images from her everyday life divided into two screens [...] so it looks like a book [and] I first tried a kind of experimental piece, but then she told me it was meant to be happy, almost funny, so I came up with the current piece, which isn't exactly the happiest piece out there (laugh) but she loved it and decided to use it".
Besides his work as a composer Sergio is also the mastermind behind the indie label Empty Fields Recordings (L.O.U.D aka Amanda Nordqvist, Santa García) and the artist organization/blog Piano & Coffee Co. Especially P&C that wants to "help to emerge, independent artists develop their own creative projects through affordable promotional services and artistic collaboration." (Quote by Piano & Coffee Co.) and became in the last two years one of the more important players in modern classical music.
The foundation of this huge project by Sergio is the spirit of collaboration in arts and music. The spirit of inspiring each other in the creative process and to achieving exceptional new music, videos and so in the result. A thing that shaped nearly every project of Sergio and makes them so exciting like this one.
The Hamburg-based artists Seraphina Theresa, who is the mastermind behind this wonderful artwork, already collaborate with Sergio on two of his works - a video project and an album artwork. The video was made for his piece "Ich bin Himmel, wenn ich den Himmel liebe" and Seraphina such a beautiful melancholic atmosphere there. The album artwork was done for the EP "The Morning Is a River and followed the minimalistic paths from all of her works.
